Local Payments on the East Coast

At Kroombit Cattle Station and Surf camp because there are no other accommodation options due to isolation we’ve got you a really good deal for accommodation and meals. You pay these direct to the accommodation suppliers at these locations.

Booking Accommodation

Oz Experience is all about flexibility. So where you stay is entirely up to you if you are travelling between Sydney and Cairns. However, part of the guide’s job is to help you book your accommodation at northbound and southbound overnight stops.

If you are travelling anywhere between Sydney and Darwin via Melbourne, Adelaide, and Alice Springs, there are compulsory local payments that INCLUDE YOUR ACCOMMODATION and most meals at your overnight stops.  Local Payment amounts are shown on each respective pass page.

Some important notes about Booking Accommodation

  • If you are joining the bus after 11am you should book your own accommodation for that night. As mentioned we normally only book accommodation at the north and southbound overnight stops. A couple of exceptions are Byron Bay, Rainbow Beach, Mission Beach, and Town of 1770 on the northbound trip; Hervey Bay on the southbound trip.
  • Oz Experience drops off directly to selected backpacker hostels. These tend to be the better known backpacker hostels, which are popular with travellers, and are reliable and clean.
  • If you’re travelling into Sydney or main centers over Christmas, New Year, or during festivals it is recommended you book weeks ahead. Byron Bay, for example, has many festivals and is always full over these festival weekends.
  • Your guide will pass an accommodation booking sheet around the bus everyday. If you’ve already booked a bed just pass the sheet on to the next person who hasn’t booked accommodation.
