> Give yourself time with your Guide to ask him where the best times are to be had and to help plan your itinerary when you first start your trip
> You can always upgrade an East Coast pass with your Guide into a bigger National pass to see even more.
> A return ferry to Magnetic Island by itself is $25. It’s so much cheaper booking it as part of our base Backpackers Magnetic Island package in the brochure.
> The Guides choice in music is always his choice which is for the benefit of the enlightenment of the bus. Feel free to make suggestions or plug in your ipod or cd to be DJ
> If you’re getting off the bus outside of compulsory overnight stops, you need to book your own accommodation. Guides love to help, however, there are limits on being able to guarantee beds at these locations and organise your accommodation.
> If you are going to Fraser Island and the Whitsunday Islands (…and you will) get organised early in your travels so as to make the most of your time and get the best deal. These are key optional activities that you will need to organise your itinerary around.
> The best bit of being on Oz Experience is to get off it – not because being on-board is not a great experience, but because Australia’s a BIG country and you need to break up your journey regularly
> Major Oz Ex National passes including Sydney also include a Blue Mountains Day trip in the pass price – great value for money
> The bigger goats are easier to catch, honest! Check it out big time at the Goat Rodeo inclusion at Kroombit Cattle Station. The Horse Riding here is the cheapest on the East Coast!
> Send in your photos and feedback about Guides to the Oz Ex website. There’s a section “From The Traveller”. Guides love hearing about your adventures after you’ve left their bus.
> Although guides can book accommodation for the first night at an overnight stop, if you are getting on the bus after midday then you’ll have to book your own accommodation - hostels have to know the numbers of people requiring a bed from us by 11am at the latest in the morning otherwise they can’t guarantee to hold us beds for you.
> It took me 4 surf lessons to get standing for the first time. Most people with no experience take two lessons
> If you are carrying a surfboard make sure you let Reservations know the night before you are getting back on. Other bus companies charge $50 to carry a surfboard on the bus. We don’t want to do that – but we do need to know how much luggage we will have on board so we can ensure space for all.
